Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 11, 2025  ·  Last updated: March 11, 2026
Your privacy matters. Codex Books does not collect any personal data. This policy explains how your library data is handled and what third-party services are involved.

1. Who We Are

Codex Books is a personal library cataloguing application. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to the developer(s) of Codex Books. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

2. What Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal data. Codex Books does not track you, profile you, or transmit any information about you or your library to us.

Your library data — titles, authors, ISBNs, cover images, notes — lives entirely in your iCloud account and on your own devices. We never see it, access it, or store it on our own servers.

Camera access is used solely to scan barcodes or photograph covers. All image processing happens on-device and nothing is sent to us.

3. How We Use Your Information

We don't use your information — because we don't have it. Your library data is yours alone, stored in your iCloud account and synced across your devices by Apple's infrastructure.

If you contact us for support, any information you share in that exchange is used solely to respond to you.

4. Cloud Sync

Codex Books uses iCloud to sync your library across your Apple devices. This is enabled by default. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account — not on our servers — and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device's Settings under your Apple ID → iCloud → Codex Books.

5. Third-Party Services

Codex Books queries the Google Books API to look up metadata when you scan an ISBN. These queries contain only the ISBN — no personal information. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle such requests.

When you choose to translate a non-English book title or description, Codex Books uses the MyMemory Translation API. Only the text being translated is sent — no personal information. See MyMemory's Privacy Policy for details.

We do not integrate any advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.

7. Your Rights

Since we do not collect or store any personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on our end. Your library data lives in your iCloud account, which you can manage directly through Apple's settings at any time.

If you contacted us for support and want any correspondence removed, reach out at the address below.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of Codex Books after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
